Overview

About straight modular kitchen

One continuous run along a single wall is what fits in a compact flat, and it is more efficient than its reputation suggests. There are no corners, so every cabinet is fully reachable, and the whole kitchen is visible at once.

The constraint is total length. Everything has to fit on one wall — sink, hob, fridge, prep space — and below about 2,700 mm the prep area between sink and hob disappears. Where the run is short, a tall unit column recovers the storage the layout does not provide.

Answers

Straight Modular Kitchen — questions

Is a straight kitchen enough for a family?

For a 1BHK or compact 2BHK with a 3,000 mm run, yes — provided the storage goes vertical and the base is drawers rather than shelves. The layout has no dead corners, which means its usable storage is higher relative to its length than an L or U.

What order should things go in?

Fridge, sink, prep, hob, moving along the run. That matches the sequence of actually cooking — fetch, wash, prepare, cook — and keeps you moving in one direction rather than crossing back over yourself.

How much counter do I need between sink and hob?

At least 600 mm, which is the minimum to chop on. If the run is short, it is better to take that space from the hob end than from the prep zone — a 600 mm hob section is workable, a 300 mm prep zone is not.
