Modular Kitchen Design & Installation in Mumbai

In an Indian kitchen the carcass sits in steam for an hour a day. That is the specification that matters, and it is the one nobody shows you in the showroom.

What is involved

What modular kitchen actually involves

Modular kitchens are sold on the shutter. Acrylic or laminate, gloss or matte, this handle or that one. It is the visible half, and it is the half that is easiest to change later.

The half that decides whether the kitchen survives is underneath. Indian cooking puts far more steam and oil into a kitchen than the European layouts these systems were designed for, and a particle-board or MDF carcass under a sink in Mumbai is a carcass with a countdown on it. Base units fail first, at the back corner, where the water goes and nobody looks.

Our approach

Carcasses are 18 mm BWP 710 marine-grade plywood throughout, with the base units under the sink additionally sealed on the inside face. All edges are banded, including the back. Hardware is Hettich or Hafele with soft-close on every drawer and hinge. Counters are 20 mm quartz with the sink cut-out finished and polished on site, and a 100 mm upstand so water at the back of the counter has nowhere to run. The plumbing and the electrical points are set out from the appliance list before any carcass is cut.

Common problems we are called for

  • Base unit under the sink swelling at the rear corner, usually within three to four years
  • Chimney installed at the wrong height, so it either hits your head or does not pull
  • Drawer channels that sag under the weight of a loaded masala pull-out
  • Counter joint placed right at the sink, where water finds it
  • Not enough power points, so the mixer and the microwave share one via an extension board

Keeping your existing counter is often sensible

If your granite counter is sound and the layout is not changing, we can replace the carcasses and shutters underneath and reuse it. That removes a meaningful cost and a week of lead time. The counter has to come out and go back, so there is some risk of a chip at the edge — we will tell you honestly whether yours will survive the lift based on its thickness and condition.

Client feedback

What clients say

★★★★★

Our previous kitchen was four years old and the unit under the sink had already gone. SpaceCrafta showed me the old carcass edge — unbanded particle board. The new one is marine ply and they sealed the inside of the sink unit as well. Small thing, but it was the whole reason the last one failed.

Modular Kitchen — frequently asked questions

What does a modular kitchen cost in Mumbai?

The carcass material, the shutter finish and the counter are the three decisions that move the number most — more than the size of the kitchen. We measure the actual running feet on site and quote each element separately, so you can see what upgrading from laminate to acrylic actually costs you, or what staying with your existing counter saves.

Which carcass material should I insist on?

18 mm BWP 710 marine-grade plywood. In a Mumbai kitchen, where steam is constant for several months a year, MDF and particle board are a false economy regardless of what edge banding is promised. If a quotation does not name the carcass grade in writing, that is usually deliberate.

Acrylic or laminate shutters?

Acrylic gives a deeper gloss and a seamless look, and it costs more. Laminate is more scratch-tolerant and far cheaper to repair — a damaged laminate shutter can be replaced individually, an acrylic one is harder to match. If you have young children, laminate is the practical answer and we will say so.

How long does a modular kitchen take?

Typically 20 to 30 days from final measurement, of which installation on site is 3 to 5 days. The counter adds about a week because it is templated after the carcasses are in, then cut and polished before fitting.

Can you work in a kitchen we are still using?

Partly. We can phase it so you keep the sink and one burner running for most of the period, but there will be 3 to 5 days where the kitchen is genuinely out of use while carcasses and counter go in. We tell you which days those are in advance so you can plan.
